Audiophile Cost Effectiveness: Hoellstern® DELTA13.4

The Hoellstern® DELTA13.4 amplifier will particularly please those users who don’t need the tremendous 5,000 watts output power at 2 ohms delivered by the DELTA14.4 amplifier.
In one operation mode each of the 4 channels of the DELTA13.4 amplifier provides 1,300 watts at 8 ohms or 3,800 watts at 2.7 ohms with the load stability that Hoellstern® amplifiers are known for. In the second operation mode it delivers an output power of 850 watts at 8 ohms or 3,400 watts at 2 ohms resp.
The DELTA13.4 amplifier is available with or without DSP loudspeaker management. The DSP option features four separate, simultaneously operative audio inputs, something which is compulsory for practice-oriented and cost-efficient monitor applications.
As to its weight, it ranks barely below the DELTA14.4 amplifier. Given its overall performance the Hoellstern® DELTA13.4(-DSP) amplifier should be extremely interesting for both permanent installations and technical service providers, and this not only for economic reasons.
Like all other Hoellstern® devices, the amplifier can be comfortably operated via an RS-485 network using the Konfigurator2™ software. The Hoellstern® loudspeaker library is equally available and can be easily used by drag & drop. Hence your cost-benefit calculation will work out fully.

The Hoellstern Amplifier Days at the Prolight + Sound were used extensively by the visitors to establish and deepen personal contacts. The Hoellstern amplifier users could take a close look at and operate the comfortable Konfigurator2™ software and the AmplifierTeacher™ during operation.
Besides the chance to create your own user setups, the expanding Hoellstern loudspeaker library may be accessed in a freely programming manner. Currently the brand-independent Hoellstern loudspeaker library is worldwide unique in this style and quality. The freely and reasonably selectable DSP architecture offers an enormous, future-proof flexibility and allows to utilise DSP setups of any given loudspeaker manufacturer in high quality. Due to the extremely short latency of 0.2 ms, all external controllers and power amplifiers can also be emulated with respect to their latencies.

The Hoellstern controller library keeps growing

January 2010: At request of the Hoellstern users the Hoellstern controller library was expanded by the following loudspeakers (excerpt in alphabetical order):

Summer Never Ends Festival 2009

From July 30th until August 2nd 2009 the Summer Never Ends Festival took place in Switzerland.
Live acts and DJs from all over the world were performing nonstop action on two floors, playing electronic music from Elektro to Dark Psy.

In 2009 the sound technical planning and coordination lay in the hands of the Tucton company from Switzerland.
The open air mainfloor covered an area of 100 x 70 metres.
It was the stated aim to fill both floors with as little frequency response and SPL deviations as possible.
According to the organiser and all people involved the requirements were met to the utmost satisfaction or even surpassed.
All loudspeakers used were exclusively driven by Hoellstern power amplifiers.

The sound system for the open air mainfloor consisted of:

The Hoellstern Setup Library is constantly updated and extended

As of now four setups (with and without LowCut) for the small Meyersound MM4 loudspeakers are also available. The equalisation and limiting functions of the Meyersound MM4-ECU controller have been very precisely emulated. No less than 64 of these midgets can be driven by one Hoellstern DELTA12.4(-DSP) 4-channel amplifier in SYM mode without exhausting its power limits. Thanks to this modern amplifier solution various analogue controllers and the necessary sense-return cabling can be dispensed with completely.

And by using the digital delay function you can also create typical delay lines (as they are commonly found with music and voice reproduction for theatres and industry) without the need for additional devices.

The benefits and utility are quite obvious: on balance, the expense, costs and sources of error can be greatly reduced with a Hoellstern DSP amplifier solution.

Furthermore, this application shows that even such tiny industry loudspeakers can be driven in a cost-efficient manner with a Hoellstern high-power amplifier.

3rd Hoellstern Amplifier Day near Berlin

The 3rd Hoellstern Amplifier Day was a highly informative experience for the invited guests. Especially impressive were the load stability and the high tonal level of the DELTA amplifiers, but also the precision of the Hoellstern setup emulations. Besides thorough technical information on the Hoellstern amplifiers and details about the product and company philosophy the visitors were shown how to operate the Konfigurator1 software, the extensive Hoellstern setup library comprising a wide range of manufacturers plus the hardware of the Hoellstern AmplifierTeacher™ which will be available by the end of 2009.

Our established A/B crosschecks with "on the fly" switching option were demonstrated in Berlin in a practical way on 3 exemplary setups:

• 12 T10 elements (line source configuration) with 8 Q-subs and 4 D12 power amps by d&b against one Hoellstern DELTA14.4-DSP amplifier.
  It was impressive for the guests attending how one DELTA14.4-DSP with 2 RU and a weight of about 12 kg can replace four D12 power amplifiers with a total of 12 RU and a weight of approx. 52 kg with no losses in terms of audio quality.

• 10 EAW KF730 elements with 6 Concert Audio ESX subs, EAW UX8800 controller and 2 LAB FP10000Q 4-channel amplifiers against 2 DELTA14.4-DSP.
  Whereas LAB Endstufen power amps and 2 x 18" subs at 2 x 8 ohms (8 ohms per channel) revealed minor weaknesses regarding bass control, with Hoellstern amplifiers all visitors were noticing a subjective 4-6 dB level increase in the 2.7 ohms mode (3 x 18" subs with 2.7 ohms per channel) with a markedly improved bass control and came to the conclusion that at least 3 LAB Endstufen would be needed to achieve an approximate performance like 2 DELTA14.4s.

AmplifierTeacher^™

The Hoellstern AmplifierTeacher™ is an external device for controlling and configuring the Hoellstern amplifiers without a PC.
The Hoellstern amplifiers or PCs and USB memory sticks respectively are connected via RS-485 (like CAN bus) and USB interfaces.
A backlit colour touchscreen with additional keys allows an easy operation. Appropriate cable sets are available as an option.
The AmplifierTeacher™ is 136 mm wide, 22 mm deep and occupies 1 rackspace. Its full metal case offers good protection and can be mounted optionally on a 1 RU rack panel.
The first software version has the same range of functions as the Konfigurator 1.
The firmware can be self-updated by the user. The delivery date for the first units has been scheduled for late May 09.
The AmplifierTeacher™ will be rated within the already named attractive price range.

Front grid - facelift

As of now the new front grids are available for all our amplifier models (aluminium front panel).
The front-mounted black grids can be added without tools and let you vacuum the filters easily.
The grids are made of spring steel and coated in black for an appealing look.

Model upgrade

The 4-channel amplifier DELTA12.4 now features a second configurable operating mode which allows a bridged power output of more than 6 kW at 2 x 2 ohms.
In this symmetrical mode the DELTA12.4 will replace the DELTA 10.4.2 model.

The DELTA 12.4 amplifier is now flexibly configurable just like the DELTA 14.4 amplifier and thus perfectly suited for almost any applications.

Prolight+Sound 2008 in Frankfurt

The international magic circus event (www.africancircus.de) from the continent of wonder - exclusively amplified by eight 4-channel Hoellstern DELTA power amplifiers.

DELTA14.4(-DSP) on the road

The European tourn 2007 of rock legend Lou Reed (USA) was successfully amplified using a 16-channel PS10 and PS15 monitoring powered by DELTA14.4-DSP.
With a latency of 0.2 ms, the internal 4 IN / 4 OUT 96 kHz DSP controller provides a directness with monitors that is only known from analogue controllers.

DELTA14.4 - Cool economists may show emotions 4 x 1350 watts at 8 ohms. 2 x 5000 watts at 2 ohms (channels 1/2) plus 2 x 2600 watts at 4 ohms (channels 3/4). All housed in a 2 RU enclosure of 29 cm depth weighing only 12 kg. Like with all DELTA models, an integrated 4 in / 4 out 24 bit / 96 kHz loudspeaker management is optionally available. This amplifier excels by extreme versatility and efficiency. The DELTA 14.4 reduces dramatically the number of amplifiers otherwise needed and is perfect for systems between 2 and 16 ohms. In practical use its high and stable output power at 16 ohms down to 2 ohms will allow you to replace 2 or even 4 conventional power amplifiers. Its audiophile sound properties and uncompromising manufacturing quality are of course identical with those of our other Hoellstern amplifiers.

From Wednesday until Saturday, you will also have the opportunity to listen to and look at our amplifiers with integrated DSP controller at the LIVE SOUND FORUM in the outdoor area of the exhibition site between 10:30 and 11 a.m. or between 3:30 and 4 p.m.

With effect from July 17^th, 2006, the Tucton firm will be our general agency for the whole of Switzerland. All Swiss customers will therefore get an outstanding support with lots of experience not far from Zurich.

Theatre at the Wilhelma Stuttgart

Since July 2006 the theatre at the Wilhelma in Stuttgart has been equipped with a high-quality sound system. The newly installed Kling & Freitag speaker systems are driven by Hoellstern DELTA10.4.4 power amplifiers. The result is an extremely high reproduction quality.

Prolight+Sound 2006 We are looking forward to your visit! You will find us in hall 8.0, booth J54. From Wednesday until Saturday between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. or between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m, you will also have the opportunity to listen to and look at our power amplifiers at the Live Sound Forum in the outdoor area of the exhibition site. These will drive the TWAUDiO speaker systems and the SLS line arrays by audioconcepts. Following critical tests and extensive crosschecks, both manufacturers use our amplifiers in their demo AMP racks.

From December 31^st, 2005, the models DELTA10.4.4 and DELTA7.2.2 will go into serial production.
The DELTA10.4.4 is designed for single-ended applications, where up to 4 channels with a max. output power of 2600 watts per channel are required.
The "small" DELTA7.2.2 is designed for 2-channel purposes and like all DELTA amplifiers delivers a souvereign performance at critical loads, owing to its derated 10 kW power supply. Together with the DELTA10.4.2 power amplifier you will get perfectly matched tools for demanding PA applications.

Preliminary information: new models - September 2005 -

From our designer workshop: By the end of 2005 we will expand the DELTA power amplifier series.
The 4-channel power amplifier DELTA 10.4.2 (total output power 11.000 watts, available since January 2004) will be joined by the model DELTA7.2.2. The new 2-channel power amplifier DELTA 7.2.2 will be produced in two versions with 1 and 2 HU rackmount cases. Sound properties, design and quality are identical with the DELTA 10.4.2.
